Optimizing Your Trip
OTP provides a feature which attempts to optimize the sequence of your trip destinations. This feature should be used when your trip contains four or more destinations. You choose Start and End points. OTP will determine the most optimal route of the rest of your destinations between the two points. For example, you may arrive in Atlanta first thing in the morning. You get to your vehicle and want to begin visiting your contacts. You intend to complete your day by checking in to your hotel. You choose the Hertz location at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport as the starting point and your hotel (Marriott-Downtown Atlanta) as the end point. NOTE: This feature is not available for Address Books. You also cannot use this feature for anything saved on the 'Favorites' page. 1. With your Trip plan displayed, click the 'Optimize Trip' button on the bottom of the screen. |
2. You will be presented with the 'Choose Start and End Points' screen. Click the pull-down arrows and select a Start and End point then click the 'Optimize Trip' button. Each of the destinations of your trip will appear in each pull-down menu. |
| 3. After clicking the 'Optimize Trip' button, a reorganized trip plan screen will be displayed. Your Start Point destination will be at the top of the list. Your End Point destination will appear last. A map of trip sequence will appear at the bottom half of the page (not shown here). Be sure to save your trip before you remove your thumb drive. | |
4. When you get into your vehicle and access your Trip, the order of destinations for your trip will match what was shown on the 'Trip Plan' screen (Step 3 above) before you saved your trip. The down-facing arrow on the lower right portion of the screen at right indicates that are more destinations listed. They can be seen by simply pressing the down-facing arrow on the NeverLost display unit. |

To save your trip to your thumb drive, follow the steps as outlined below. You must
actively save your destinations; OTP will not do it for you.
Insert your USB (flash) thumb drive into your computer's USB port Click the 'Save Now' button on the 'My NeverLost Items' box in the upper right hand portion of the webpage (shown at right). The 'Download Station' page will be displayed (illustration at lower left). Click either of the 'Download' buttons depending on your intent. The File Download box will appear. Click 'Save' (shown at lower right) Locate and select the main (root) directory of your thumb drive (i.e. F:\ or G:\). Some computers will show this as "Removable Drive" Select the 'Save' button on the 'Save As' message box. Note: Do not change the recommended file name or file extension (OTPTRIPS.NVL). This will cause the file to be inaccessible to the NeverLost system. If you receive a message asking you to replace the existing file click 'Yes.' NOTE: This function will not merge previous data with new data. Please upload the existing file (online) to merge old and new destinations before replacing the existing file. Once download has completed, please click the 'Close' button in the 'Download Complete' message box. |
Your USB device will now be populated with the destinations of your trip and the Atlanta Area City Guide file. You can take your memory device along with you and use it when you get to your Hertz vehicle. Please see the section on LOAD for instructions on uploading information into the NeverLost. |

SAVING DESTINATIONS TO YOUR ADDRESS BOOK(S) AND TRIPS(S) WHILE IN THE VEHICLE
During your NeverLost rental you may route to destinations that weren't included in any of your OTP-compiled Trips or Address Books. You may want to save those destinations on your memory device.
You're kind of reversing the process by copying destinations stored on the NeverLost hard drive and placing them on your thumb drive. When you prepared your trip and/or address book online, you copied data that is stored on a private server on to your thumb drive with the intent of enabling the NeverLost to use that data in its subsequent route calculation and guidance.
You can add non-OTP compiled entries either:
You can easily add in-vehicle-selected destinations to your trip(s) and/or address book(s) by following this sequence:
1. Whatever you select, whether a POI, a Street Address, or an Intersection, will appear as the Header (Screen Title). You will be given the options to Route, Save to Address Book, or Save to My trips. |
2. SAVE TO MY ADDRESS BOOK - You may decide to save the 'Atlanta Pizza Company' restaurant to one of your address books. Simply highlight the folder and press ENTER. The restaurant will have been added to that folder. The NeverLost display unit will revert back to the screen shown in Step 1. This is your confirmation that the restaurant was indeed added to your chosen folder. |
3. SAVE TO MY TRIPS - the same process as described in Step 2 applies here. You're simply choosing a Trip folder rather than an Address Book folder. |
